Biblos 5 - More professional than ever

Updated the 06/16/2017 00:00

Today Biblos 5 is a reality! Continuing the tradition of its previous versions, Biblos now offers you all the professionalism you've never had before, completely free of charge.

Stop, you might be thinking this is just another article about what Biblos does. You're not entirely wrong, but give me just 5 minutes and you'll discover something more.

Firstly, I'd like to thank Biblos 4 for dutifully serving its purpose. Released two years ago, it brought many innovations, big and small, such as the 64-bit version. The experience of Biblos 4 will now be fully transferred to Biblos 5.

After closing my business, I deliberately put the professional version of Biblos on the back burner. Those who used Biblos 4 Professional can be counted on one hand. I pondered over what to do with these professional features, and the most natural path seemed to be making them available for free.

Now in Biblos 5, you have all the power of the professional tools from the previous version, and I offer them to you for free.

You might say that Biblos was already enough as it was. You're right; you'll realize that these new features are especially useful for those who make advanced use of Word processing and Braille.

Remember Biblos's dongle? If you have one, it will be a nice memento of past times that you can attach to your keychain. Biblos 5 is free from any Hardware protection.

I'm releasing Biblos 5 by eliminating any differences between the Home and Professional versions. Now there's only one Biblos 5, and all the others are...

The most interesting innovation is that of Braille page layouts, which will allow you to vary the layout within the same Braille document. It means that within the same document, you can have multiple headers, footers, different margins, the much-desired borders... another buzzword of these years that the "Biblos enthusiasts" have clung to at the last moment. Do I hear the sound of nails scratching mirrors?

With Biblos 5, you have the ability to print tactile images inserted in the documents and you have the possibility to organize multiple profiles for Braille settings.

If you were indifferent to these innovations, I can tell you that this is the very first version 5.00, and in the coming months, development work will continue introducing other features, such as Styles with which you can reformat documents in just a few clicks.

I've searched for a painless way to transition from Biblos 4 to Biblos 5 while retaining your configurations. If you've installed Biblos 4, follow these instructions, and in a few minutes, you'll have Biblos 5 ready to use.

  1. Download the version of Biblos 5 most suitable for your operating system.
  2. Uninstall Biblos 4. During the uninstallation, you'll be asked if you want to delete your user data: choose NO.
  3. Install Biblos 5. During the installation, you'll be asked if you want to transfer user data from Biblos 4 to Biblos 5: choose YES. Later, you'll be asked if you want to delete user data from Biblos 4: choose YES.

That's it, your Biblos 5 is ready to use with your preferred configurations.

Did I keep my promises? I've only talked about the new Biblos 5 without repeating what it does and how. If you use and enjoy Biblos, I'd appreciate your collaboration. Collaboration means participating in the expansion and dissemination of the program. Translation, Braille, graphics, window appearance, Internet services, keyboard maps, help writing... these are all areas where if you have the opportunity, you could contribute. If you'd like, you could leave me your testimonial, which would be an encouragement for others to use Biblos. Or even just talking about it, recommending it to your acquaintances, would be a way to acknowledge Biblos for its merits.
